Yeah I made that up. But you know, I’m different dorky. Here are some images from us getting ready for Christmas….I thought I would share a little glimpse into this single parent home. In my home, there is a lot of laughing, a lot of self control (to not sell them to the highest bidder), and a big dose of humour. It is crazy, but I love my life. I love my boys. I love my friends and I love Christmas. So here you are, Christmas decorating from a different perspective.

incidentally the iPhone flashlight app makes a handy dandy mini light source for filling in the shadows….
This is from a dear friend of mine. She sent it to me in the mail last year. It is one of my favourite ornaments.

again the little iPhone app did wonders….
My best friend in the whole wide world who I miss like crazy and hate that she is all the way over on Vancouver Island made this. It makes me think of her, and candy (you can open it up and put candy in it).

Third advent candle is lit. This is a tradition that is important to us, that I am trying to make a bigger part of our Christmas celebration and anticipation. The four weeks of advent hold huge significance to someone who celebrates Christ’s birth.

Another friend made this for me. I love it.

And ta dum…..our one tacky thing at Christmas. And it isn’t even mine. Thing 1 and 2 LOVE their Christmas Village and every year we add a little piece or some people. I’m hoping by the time they are teens they will be less enthralled with it, but for now, it is sweet and I love that they have this thing together, and it is something we can all work on, and share as a family. Making cookies would be more up my alley….and we will be doing some cookie marathoning this weekend. Better pull out the elastic waist pants!

I hope you enjoy your time with your family and friends, and take time to just be present and relaxed and not get overwhelmed with society created Christmas rushing and expectations and debt accumulating. To me, family (even imperfect ones), friends, food, cookies, laughter, and maybe a little rum and eggnog….that is what makes it so great. The small moments, the memories of watching the holiday through our children’s eyes. So soon and they will be grown, and I for one want to cherish these days.
Have a blessed Christmas and may 2010 be your year! Grace and Peace.
